'We have exterminated a cancer,' Romario on Teixeira resignation

Brazilian World Cup winner Romario has expressed his delight at the resignation of Ricardo Teixeira from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), and compared the ex ruler to a malignant tumour.

After the announcement that the veteran would be stepping down, Romario took the opportunity on his official Facebook page to once more condemn Teixeira.

“Today we can celebrate. We have exterminated a cancer from Brazilian football. Finally Ricardo Teixeira has resigned from the CBF presidency.”

The former Barcelona and Vasco Da Gama became one of Teixeira's fiercest enemies in recent years, criticising the supposed corruption inside the CBF as well as the chief's handling of the 2014 World Cup preparations.

Romario, now a Brazil’s Socialist Party deputy, also spoke out against FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke, accusing him of valuing profit over people for the upcoming tournament.

To end, Romario gave a less than effusive welcome to Teixeira's successor: “I hope that the new president Jose Maria Marin, who stole a medal from a Corinthians player during the Copa Sao Paulo de Juniores, does not make that a habit in the Confederation. Sir, now we have to exterminate the Aids.”
