City reaches temporary agreement with Villa 31 inhabitants

Residents from the Villa 31 slum set up a roadblock last Friday, and asked the City Government to set up a school bus service to take their children to school.

The City Government agreed to evaluate the current situation of the inhabitants of the Villa 31 Retiro slum for the next fifteen days, after they interrupted traffic all day last Friday as they demanded for additional school buses that they need to take their children to school.

The agreement was reached after the National Security Ministry jumped into the conflict last Friday and persuaded the protesters to lift the roadblock they had put in place for over 12 hours, hoping a City Government official would show up to listen to their demands.

In the written agreement, the City Government agreed to “visit the Indira Ghandi school – where the Villa 31 inhabitants want to send their children to – in order to check the building’s structure.”

They also vowed to evaluate the problem posed by a lack of public transportation between the school and the slum.

The Villa 31 neighbours also vowed not to interrupt traffic for the next fifteen days.
