BA province teachers to continue strike next week

Lessons were still suspended in many BA province classrooms due to the inability for teachers´ unions and the province government to reach a wage deal.

Teachers’ unions in Buenos Aires province will continue to strike next week, after wage negotiations with the province's Government failed during a meeting today. The beginning of the school year remains on hold for thousands of children.

The teachers' union sticked to their initial demand of a minimum monthly wage of 3,100 pesos, but the meeting was finally postponed as they couldn't reach a deal.

Teachers in the province completed a 48-72 hour strike on what should have been the first week back to school after the summer holidays. The union already stated that should there not be an agreement today; another 72-hour strike was already approved.

Earlier this week, province cabinet chief Alberto Pérez considered that “it’ll be difficult to change our offer,” due to the fact that it broke the planned budget set by Daniel Scioli’s government.
