Buenos Aires province teachers to go on strike
Suteba teacher union announced they would stage a 24-hour strike next Tuesday, the first day of school in Buenos Aires province, after they failed to reach a deal with the provincial government over a wage hike.
Suteba’s secretary-general Roberto Baradel said teachers will hold meetings this afternoon to discuss the possibility of extending the strike.
“The government’s proposal includes a 16.7 percent wage hike, which could reach 20 percent in June,” he explained adding teachers are demanding a minimum wage of 3,100 pesos as of March 1, the equivalent to a 29.2 percent hike.
