Final farewell given to Lydia Lamaison

Veteran actress Lydia Lamaison was given her final farewell today before family and friends, as her body was taken to the Pantheon for Actors at Buenos Aires’ famous Chacarita cemetery. The cremation is to take place later today and after the ashes are to be buried.

Lamaison died yesterday at the age of 97, after her health had gradually begun to deteriorate. She left behind her a stellar career in theatre, television and the big screen.

According to the actress’ wishes, a funeral ceremony was not held, and in addition Lamaison had asked that instead of laying flowers on her grave, that donations be made to the House of Theatre, where she had been vice-president to before she died.

Born in Mendoza on August 5 1914, she grew up in Buenos Aires, forming part of the Biliken Club as a child and making her theatrical debut in the 1930s in Georges Bernard Shaw’s “Cándida.”

She appeared in some 25 films, and dozens of plays, and also made a mark in television, appearing in telenovela’s such as “Celeste siempre Celeste,” and “Jesús, el heredero.”
