Heat index hits 39 degrees in BA, storm alerts issued

Exceedingly high temperatures and rain alerts maintained porteños clutching their umbrellas across the city today.

Residents of the city of Buenos Aires lived through another extraordinarily hot day today as the heat index soared to highs of 39 degrees. The National Weather forecasting Service (SMN) issued a weather warning for heavy downpours in the metropolitan area.

Forecasters predicted that there was a high possibility of storms causing “great amounts of rainfall, strong winds and possible hail,” SMN said.

It was predicted that weather warnings and heat alerts would remain in place until Monday.

The yellow alert, downgraded from orange yesterday was kept in place for another 24-hour period.

For Sunday the outlook was not looking much prettier, with predicted cloudy skies, probable rain, thunderstorms and temperatures ranging between 21 and 29 degrees.
