UK MPs to visit Malvinas next month
Members of the UK’s Defence Select Committee have confirmed that a group of British Members of Parliament (lawmakers) will be visiting the Malvinas Islands next month to inspect Britain’s military force after heightening tensions with Argentina before the 30th anniversary of the conflict.
The visit of the MPs has been confirmed in today’s edition of the British newspaper The Times.
Thus, deputies will be touching down on Malvinas’ soil for the first time in ten years.
Likewise, they’ll have the chance to meet with Prince Williams -who’s been deployed to Malvinas to pursue a rescue and search helicopter pilot training.
According to the British tabloid, the lawmakers’ agenda includes a tribute speech to those soldiers of the Queen who lost their lives during the conflict
Labour Party’s Deputy and member of the Defence Select Committee, Thomas Docherty, referred to the trip as a good opportunity to see how the administration of Primer Minister David Cameron is spending the defence budget.
“Considering the significant British military presence within the Islands, it is totally logical for the committee’s members to travel over and personally see and check what’s being done with the tax payers’ money.”
The trip plans came after the UK announced the sending of the top-notch technology Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dauntless to replace the HMS Montrose.
