UK's Cameron calls Piñera to discuss Malvinas conflict
British Prime Minister David Cameron called Chilean president Sebastián Piñera to chat about the ongoing diplomatic conflict between his country and Argentina, and to confirm that he would be visiting Chile next January.
According to Chilean news site “La Tercera,” Cameron and Piñera, who is currently vacationing in southern Chile, held a long conversation that focused mainly on the current Malvinas sovereignty issue, although it is said they also discussed Greece’s economic situation.
The website also assured that both sides will be “respectful” of each other’s position on the Malvinas issue.
In the last few years Chile has supported Argentina’s stance on the sovereignty issue, and last December it decided to join the Mercosur on their policy that bans all ships carrying the Malvinas Islands’ flag from entering their ports.
As some other point in their conversation, Cameron ratified that he will be in Chile in early 2013 in order to attend the Community of Latin American and Caribbean and States and members of the Eruropean Union summit, scheduled to take place in Chile.
As of now, the La Monea Palace has not released an official statement detailing the conversation between both heads of state.
