Spinetta, one of Argentina´s rock legends, lost his battle with lung cancer yesterday.
Family, fans and friends gathered today to pay their last tribute to musician and poet Luis Alberto "El Flaco" Spinetta. The funeral procession arrived to the Memorial Cemetery in Greater Buenos Aires district of Pilar, were the late artist was cremated
The singer's ashes are to be scattered at La Plata River, informed his son Dante Spinetta.
“ We are going to tell people the exact location where the ashes are to be scattered so everyone can take flowers and see the sunset with him,” one of the rocker’s four sons explained to a small crowd outside the cemetery.
Last night, without causing commotion, as the family requested, big rock musicians and friends stopped by Belgrano’s funeral home to say goodbye to one of the founding fathers of Argentine rock.
Creator of memorable bands that marked the nation’s rock history – such as Almendra and Pescado Rabioso – Spinetta died yesterday after a six-month battle against lung cancer.
Musicians like Ricardo Mollo, Juanse, Fito Páez, Héctor Starc, and members of bands such as Babasónicos, amongt others, paid their last tribute to the rock legend overnight at a Belgrano funeral home. Also tennis legend Guillermo Vilas was present to say last good-bye.
Starc, who was guitarist of bands such as Aquelarre and Tantor told reporters, “He was incapable of doing anything against his beliefs. There a lot of great musicians, but Spinetta was one of a kind.”
Likewise, singer León Gieco said, "We compensate the sadness of losing him with the magnitude of his work. Luis’ work will finally be recognized”, and added, “I now realize the importance of this incredible person. He was the one who got us all in. One of the nation’s rock royalties."
