Global media echoes of CFK’s announcement over Malvinas
Press from all over the world echoed President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s announcement over the Malvinas Islands, focusing on the complaint that Argentina will file before the UN due to the alleged “militarisation” of the area.
British BBC News stated that Fernández de Kirchner is to present a formal complaint before the United Nation’s Security Council and General Assembly over the “British militarisation” of the Malvinas Islands. The newspaper added that tension has mounted over this issue in the recent weeks.
Malvinas Islands’ Penguin News’ website rapidly posted the news of the statements given by the Head of State and highlighted that she has made a “valid claim” over the Islands.
The CNN’s website also referred to the militarisation of the area and stated that the President has accused “Great Britain of militarising the South Atlantic.”
Meanwhile, Brazilian online newspaper Folha announced that Fernández de Kirchner will present a protest before the UN. It stated that the presence of the HMS Dauntless is seen as “a ‘militarisation of the South Atlantic’,” according to the President’s speech.
The Uruguayan online newspaper “El Observador” also referred to this issue and stressed that Argentina’s President will present a protest over the Islands before the UN.
