'William's deployment is a provocation,' says former Foreign Minister

Former foreign minister Jorge Taiana. (2005-2010)

Former Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana clarified today that Prince William’s deployment to the Malvinas islands was a “provocation.” The Prince was reported to be arriving to the islands today, where he will train for six weeks with the Royal Air Force.

Similarly, Taiana assured that the Argentine Government continues to push with their sovereignty claim stating, “the United Kingdom should sit down to negotiate” over the Malvinas Islands.

“Argentina has to maintain what it has been bringing forward since 2003 with certainty, which is putting forward their claim across to all forums and pushing for the request made by the United Nations (for talks over sovereignty) to be finally carried out,” sustained the former government member.

Furthermore, Taiana stated that if the request for talks is put through “finally the United Kingdom will hear the international claim and find themselves in a political position which will force them to negotiate.”
