Eight clubs ask AFA to suspend relegations

A total of eight First Division “A” football clubs will ask the Argentine Football Association to reform the current system of tournaments and most important to suspend all relegations to “B” National second division.

Among the suscribers to such request are: San Lorenzo de Almagro, Newell's Old Boys, Club Atlético Tigre, Club Atlético Banfield, Atlético Rafaela, Club Atlético Olimpo, Club Atlético Unión, and Club Atlético All Boys.

The clubs afore mentioned are all fighting for survival in the premier division as the relegation ghost is floating around them.

The reform plan also includes the addition of four clubs to the current 20 playing in First Division “A”, as well the return of the old long tournament mode in which each team face same rival twice.

Likewise, the new tournament draft indicates that the top four teams of the “B” National Division will be automatically promoted to the first division.

It is not clear yet if the relegation average system will continue or if like in Europe the bottom teams, in this case the bottom four, will automatically be relegated to the category below.
