Non-SUBE users to pay more on buses and trains from February 10

SUBE cards being handed out downtown in Buenos Aires.

It was announced today that buying regular tickets on Buenos Aires buses and trains is to get more expensive. The reason for this sudden change is that the subsidies for these modes of transport in the city will only be remain intact for those who use the Government-owned SUBE card.

By way of an advertising campaign, the Government assured that train and bus users are to pay higher fares from February 10 in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) unless they own and use a SUBE card.

“If you don’t have your SUBE card you are going to lose the benefits of the subsidy and your journey will be more expensive, but if you use a SUBE card you will pay the same as you do today,” said the advertisement.
