Orange alert issued for BA City and province due to heat

Orange alert is issued as a health warning, as the heat can be particularly dangerous for people aged over 65 and for babies and young children, and those suffering from terminal illnesses.

The National Weather Forecast Service (SMN) issued an Orange Alert today due to the increasing high temperatures in Buenos Aires City and province areas. Temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius this afternoon with an even higher heat index, officials informed.

By midmorning, the temperature had already reached a high of 33 degrees Celsius. SMN bumped up the weather warning from yellow to orange today as temperatures rose and the heat continued to asphyxiate the Capital.

The Orange alert is issued as a health warning, as the heat can be particularly dangerous for people aged over 65 and for babies and young children, and those suffering from terminal illnesses. SMN urged citizens to follow the Health Ministry's advice during the summer months.

The recommendations are to increase water consumption, avoid eating heavy meals, sun exposure without sun screen and excessive physical activity.

For Saturday, temperatures are expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.
