Two elderly women found dead in Recoleta

Two elderly sisters were found dead in their apartment in the City neighbourhood of Recoleta. A 89-year-old woman and her 93-year-old sister were found dead by police officers in their home in the intersection of Callao and Juncal streets. The cause of the deaths has yet to be determined.

The discovery of the bodies was made in a building along Juncal 1800 street, where police officers and forensic experts worked.

Doctors indicated as they arrived to the scene that the women had been dead for at least two months and that they showed no signs of violence.

These preliminary reports surprised investigators, particularly because no relatives came forward during that time period neither to the apartment nor to the police to find out about the whereabouts of the sisters.

It all started when a building resident called the police as he noticed a strong putrid smell oozing out of the fourth floor and that the women who inhabited hadn’t been seen in some time.

The man commented that the smell had become more intense in the last few weeks, presumably due to the intense heat. “This neighbour said that both women had very little contact with the rest of the building’s residents and that it was very rare to see them step outside their apartment.”
