Gov't rules out train, bus fares hike talks
The National Government denied talks of adjusting bus and train fares for the area of Buenos Aires today and stated that “it’s not urgent nor necessary” to do so.
“The Transport Secretary is not working on any schemes to adjust tariffs and much less looking to make massive increases in public transport fares,” stated the sector head, Juan Pablo Schiavi.
The information was sent today in a communiqué, responding to accusations made in a local newspaper that the national government were on their way to making rushed moves to put in place public transport hikes.
Schiavi quickly quashed the daily newspaper’s claims that the Government House was evaluating the prospect of putting the minimum bus ticket up to $2 pesos (current fare stands at $1.10 pesos) and up to $1.40 pesos for the minimum train fare (current price is at $0.80 centavos).
