'Subsidy cuts are an act of social justice,' Social Development Minister

Social Development Minister Alicia Kirchner considered “fair” and "an act of social justice" the subsidy cuts that take effect as of today reaching to inhabitants of some of the BA wealthiest areas.  

Thus, the official remarked that “granting subsidies only to those who still need them is an act of social justice made by the national government.”

The government’s subsidy cut scheme announced last month includes several sectors. Thus, Buenos Aires City state buildings, the street lighting service and City motorway firms will stop receiving the subsidies of the national government.

Furthermore, the government had also announced that certain neighbourhoods will stop receiving a subsidy. Such are the cases of particular zones within the following neighbourhoods/districts: Belgrano (and Belgrano Rosario), Recoleta, Retiro, Palermo (Botanical Gardens area), Barrio CASI in San Isidro, Corredor del Libertador, Corredor Olivos, San Isidro (Horse race track area), San Isidro, and Jockey Club area.

Planning Minister Julio De Vido had announced that residents who live in these areas are within the general law allowance and able to be excluded from the measure. Fir that purpose, they should put forward an exemption request form. 

In the case of certain areas like Puerto Madero, Barrio Parque, Recoleta-isla, and private country clubs, the subsidies will be cut automatically with no chance ofputting forward a request to keep them on.  

This measure alone is to affect 2,157 users and will save the government 230.5 million pesos.
