Chilean Torres del Paine national park fire under control

A massive fire rages uncontrolled at the Torres del Paine National Park in the Patagonian steppe in southern Chile.

The fire that broke out in the Chilean Torres del Paine national park forest is under control, due to the good climatic conditions, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera said. The Israeli citizen accused havinc caused the fire denied his involvement.

“Thanks to the work of firefighters and improved weather conditions, the fire in Torres del Paine national park is under control, “Piñera announced in his Twitter account.

“We have been able to curb the advance of the fire,” the director of the National Emergency Bureau Vicente Núñez confirmed.

The fire burnt 12795 hectares of native forests in the Torresdel Paine national park. “We hope to put out the fire completely in a matter of hours or days,” Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter said.

The fire began Tuesday afternoon in the lake Grey area of the Torres del Aime national park.

Israeli citizen Rotem Singer was accused of starting the fire after he allegedly did not put a toilet papel roll correctly, but he denied the charges.
