Transport leaders say 'no deal' reached over Xmas bonus
The powerful Truckers’ Union, led by CGT leader Hugo Moyano confirmed on Wednesday that they had succeeded in negotiating a $2,500 pesos Christmas bonus, which would be paid in two installments. However, a representative from one of the transport associations involved in negotiations denied the accord and called for them to be postponed until “late January or early February.”
The news about the agreement came through a message sent by the CGT Human Rights Secretary, Julio Piumato, who congratulated truckers for their “achievement.”
It was even disclosed that the $2,500 pesos bonus would be paid in two installments, while representatives of the Truckers’ Union said they were polishing up some details in order to close the accord in a meeting that was still going on.
But the head of the FADEEAC’s Labour Affairs, Lucio Zemborain, assured that “there is no agreement” on the matter.
Zemborain explained that his organization had urged truckers to “postpone the discussion until late January or early February.”
“We haven’t signed anything,” he assured, adding that the protests being staged by truckers demanding the bonus had even “begun to be toned down.”
