Dakar vehicles head to Mar del Plata
The vehicles that will be part of the Rally Dakar began arriving at the North breakwater of Mar del Plata City to get ready for the competition. The convoy left Lima, in Zárate, this morning and headed towards the coastal city.
The 450 vehicles, between cars, trucks, motorbikes and quads, travelled through the Route 9, Pan American highway, General Paz Avenue, Buenos Aires-La Plata highway and Route 2.
The competition will begin on January 1 and will count with a 8,373 kilometres route from Mar del Plata to Lima.
The Rally Dakar 2012 will count with the inclusión of Peru in the route for the first time since it was transferred from Africa to South America. In the three previous editions it began and ended in Argentina and also passed to Chile.
The competition will arrive in Peru on January 12 and will end three days later at the Plaza de Armas square in Peru, historical centre of the Peruvian capital city.
