One dead, over 200 injured by fireworks on Christmas eve
A twenty-seven-year-old man died at Puerto General San Martín locality, Santa Fé province as the result of an explosion of a firecracker. Authorities say he parished a couple hours after being admitted in Eva Perón´s Hospital. Officials say his death is being investigated by the local police.
Amongst the victims in serious condition is an eight-year old boy who had 38% of his body burned. According to reports, the boy was hit at home by a fire piece coming from the street. He is in intensive care and currently breathing with the help of an artificial respirator, informed the Garrahan’s hospital staff.
Buenos Aires City Santa Lucía hospital alone reported 57 admissions to its facilities. Fernando Pellegrino, head of the emergencies at the Hospital expressed concern over the amount of injured youngsters. “Overnight we treated 57 patients, ten needed medical intervention due the gravity of their injuries. Over half of our patients are under fifteen years old,” he explained yesterday.
Cordoba province emergency services also registered a high number of people with fireworks related injuries. Officials reported six children remain in critical condition in hospitals and clinics across the nation.
