Pope Benedict XVI lights a candle in his private window, at the end of the unveiling ceremony of the crib in St Peter''s Square at the Vatican.
Pope Benedict XVI kicked off today Christmas festivities by lighting a candle in his private window, at the end of the unveiling ceremony of the crib in St Peter's Square at the Vatican, today.
Hundreds of people gathered in the square to watch the ceremory and the unveiling of the Vatican's nativity scene.
Tomorrow, Pope Benedict will deliver his customary "Urbi et Orbi" speech, Latin for "to the city and the world," from the inner loggia of St. Peter's. He's is also expected to deliver Christmas greetings in dozens of languages.
