Navy head steps down after espionage case

The head of the Navy, Admiral Jorge Godoy, requested removal from his post after being accused of illegal espionage. The Government chose Deputy Admiral Carlos Alberto Paz to take his place, a decision which was published today in the Official Gazette.

By way of Decree 247, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli, accepted the request for the “voluntary removal” of Godoy, and therefore “relieving him of his duties as Navy General.
