UATRE farm hands union stage protest at Congress
UATRE farm hands union protested in front of Congress, after the Senate approved the Farm Worker Statute. Earlier today demonstrators blocked access to the Pan-American highway at kilometre 50, Pueyrredón Bridge, as well as several other routes, in protest of the law, thus causing delays in traffic.
Other routes, such as the Buenos Aires-La Plata motorway was being blocked off at the Qulimes junction. Riccheri motorway, which also suffered a build up of traffic due to the protests, was cleared by noon.
After clearing all route accesses, the protests headed to the Congress to wait for the debate’s results, and continued there after it was announced the law was passed.
During an interview UATRE head Gerónimo "Momo" Venegas said the protest is only “lasting two to three hours.” He also added “that people had the right to complain.”
“I can’t control the workers who spontaneously showed up. As soon as the Senate finishes debating the bill, everybody is going home. This is legitimate pressure we can put on the government so the bill doesn’t go through,” the Union leader remarked.
