CFK inauguration: a custom-made celebration
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is set to begin her second term today. After being sworn-in in Congress, her schedule later includes the ride to Plaza de Mayo, the swearing-in of her Cabinet members and the greeting of foreign delegations at the Government House.
The ceremony begins at midday, when Fernández de Kirchner arrives in Congress with Vice-president-elect Amado Boudou.
The Legislative Assembly is set to begin at 11.30 am, led by Vice-president Julio Cobos, who will attend by the President’s personal wish.
After being received by two committees of lawmakers, the President will head to the Blue Room, where she will sign the Upper and Lower Houses' honour book.
Then, Fernández de Kirchner and Boudou, alongside the Senate and Lower House’s authorities will enter the Lower House floor in order to be sworn-in.
Once they take the stand, Fernández de Kirchner and Boudou will take their oaths. Despite previous rumours, Vice-president Julio Cobos will invite them to do so, and both will do so in first person. Once the oaths are taken, Fernández de Kirchner will give her first official speech as the reelected president before the Legislative Assembly, in which she’ll outline the main aspects of her administration.
After the speech, the President and Vice-President Amado Boudou will head to the Government House through the Avenida de Mayo, escorted by the traditional Horse Grenadiers Regiment. Fences have been set along the path to keep crowds at a distance. There will be designated spaces for provincial representatives.
Celebrations then will move to Argentina´s landmark Plaza the Mayo, where musical attractions are expected to provide the soundtrack for the popular festivities.
The festival will feature musical attractions such as Bersuit, `Chango` Spasiuk, La Mancha de Rolando, Iván Noble, Teresa Parodi and Víctor Heredia who are scheduled to play during the afternoon.
CFK´s new Cabinet is also to step in power today. The Government’s new team is to be sworn-in at 5 pm at the Salon Blanco of the Government House.
Later on, at 7 pm, the new Cabinet is hosting a ceremony to welcome their teams to power. Fernández will them have a meeting with Asturias Prince and Chinese officials. Rumors of a possible gathering with the Brazilian head of State Dilma Roussef circulated this morning at the city´s capital.
The reelected president’s outfit selection is also causing great anticipation. Fernández has been wearing black since her husband’s Néstor Kirchner death and protocol demands a lighter color for today’s inauguration.
