Chávez, Santos and Humala among others to skip CFK inauguration ceremony
Presidents Hugo Chávez (Venezuela), Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia), Ollanta Humala (Peru), Felipe Calderón (Mexico) and Rafael Correa (Ecuador) have decided to cancel their trips to Buenos Aires in the last minute and will not be attending President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s inauguration ceremony for different reasons.
“I won’t attend President Fernández de Kirchner’s tomorrow because we are undergoing a seasonal emergency,” Colombian Head of State Santos assured. He will be represented by Colombian Foreign Minister María Angela Holguín.
Meanwhile Brazilian Instituto Cidadania confirmed that the visit Chávez was going to pay to former president Luis Inácio Lula da Silva was cancelled due to the strong rains that called for an emergency state in several regions of Venezuela.
Rafael Correa, from Ecuador, canceled at the last minute due to "domestic problems," while Mexico's Felipe Calderón and Peruvian president Ollanta Humala cancelled their visits due to internal scheduling problems.
“Within the framework of the excellent relationship that Peru maintains with Argentina, the Head of State has decided that Foreign Minister Rafael Roncoglio represents him in such event,” a communiqué released by the Peruvian Press Secretariat read.
