Two lanes opened along Libertador after pipe burst
City traffic began to be put at ease slightly as officials opened two lanes along Libertador Avenue, following its partial closing off this morning after a main water pipe burst this morning, which caused various set backs on the roads.
“Out of the eight lanes, two have been opened, to ease traffic slightly,” said traffic officials.
A major water pipe burst this morning along Libertador Avenue and Austria, causing traffic chaos in the city neighbourhood of Recoleta. The area of the incident was completely blocked off, with traffic being diverted down Agüero.
Sources from AySA water company informed that “a main distributing pipe has burst in the middle of Libertador Avenue,” due to causes that remain unknown.
The pipe burst, which has caused minor flooding, was affecting “from 10 to 15 blocks” AySA sources informed, furthering that the problem is likely to be resolved by “this afternoon.”
At the scene, workers from the water company were working to “close the main valve,” sources said.
Spokesperson from AySa, Diego Muñiz said to the press that “the pipe was probably rusty. Breakage is common when they are that old.”
