Monti sworn in as new Italian prime minister
Monti, a former European commissioner, was the first member of the new government to be sworn in by President Giorgio Napolitano at the Quirinale Palace.
Former Prime Minister Mario Monti was sworn today as Italy's new prime minister.

Mario Monti took over as Italy's new prime minister and appointed himself finance minister today as he unveiled a technocratic cabinet to rescue the eurozone heavyweight from bankruptcy.
