Chávez shows good health on national television

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (C) runs in Caracas, Venezuela on November 5, 2011.

President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, who is currently recovering from a battle with cancer, went out of his way to show his good state of health today, by running with a group of students of the Military Academy, shown on a Venezuelan television network.

Chavez recently declared that he was "free from illness", a subject that has been dominating recent news about the Latin American leader.

Dressed in sports gear and accompanied by the Defense minister, Carlos Mata, among other military officials, the head of state led a short jog alongside a group of cadets around the central patio of the Military Academy in Caracas.

“I was just passing by and I felt like saying hello. You sons and daughters are the revolution.  Here we are forty years after, in the eye of the storm of the revolution,” Chavez, before running with students, who have been training and rehearsing for an official ceremony which takes place this Sunday.

Due to his illness, Chavez has drastically reduced his appearances in the media, but affirmed that he is free of cancer. The Venezuelan leader was diagnosed with cancer four months ago, and has undergone chemotherapy treatment since.
