Phone calls and official statements have been pouring in since yesterday when Cristina Fernández de Kirchner became not only first women to run Argentina, but also the first one to do it twice. World leaders rushed to congratulate her and show support for her second term.

In a released statement French president Nicolás Sarkozy called her victory “brilliant” and said to be “aware of the importance of her achievements at Casa Rosada in the past four years of government and of popular recognition.”

Sarkozy added Argentina and France had similar international guidelines. "Our countries stand for the same values. We are both in favor of multilateralism and a world of multi-polar powers, fair and brotherly, respectful of the democracy and human rights,” he remarked.

Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero also rejoiced CFK’s “great” victory and reminded her the Spanish support for a second term. “Be sure you will find in the Spanish government all the support to continue expanding the excellent relationship of cooperation and friendship that exist between our people,” the message read.

Bolivian leader Evo Morales also celebrated CFK reelection by saying the results confirm Kirchner’s popularity. “As we predicted, the results ratify not only your well deserved leadership, but also the immense love your people has for you,” Morales wrote to the Argentine chief of state.

Uruguayan president Pepe Mujica also congratulated the CFK on her win. According to the Uruguayan presidency “Mujica was one of the first to call her and congratulate CFK on her victory.”

Venezuelan president and long time political partner Hugo Chávez also released a statement on CFK’s reelection rejoicing the people’s choice. Chavéz said that her triumph exceeds national borders representing a “victory for the South American union.”
