Sunday, October 23, 2011Alfonsín settles for third place in presidential elections
Union for Social Development’s presidential candidate Ricardo Alfonsin acknowledged his defeat and congratulated President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for her victory in the elections and vowed to return "in full force."
With over 75 percent of the votes tallied, Alfonsín had obtained 11.5 percent of the votes, effectively achieving the third place in the race.
“We want to congratulate the president,” Alfonsín stated during a press conference, and added that he will “continue working” for the Radical Party (UCR).
UDESO’s candidate had assured earlier that “they were fighting for the second place” with Socialist Hermes Binner and that “beyond the result, there are two million and a half people that voted us and that trusted our behaviour and proposals.”
