Victory Front prevails in most provincial gubernatorial elections

As the news of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s reelection resonate in the political world, several provinces around the country such as Santa Cruz, Entre Ríos and San Luis are also celebrating the results obtained in their gubernatorial elections.

In Mendoza, with over 76 percent of the votes tallied, Kirchnerite gubernatorial candidate Francisco “Paco” Pérez achieved a resounding victory after obtaining over 40 percent of the votes, beating his opponent, UCR candidate Roberto Iglesias, for a 17 percent margin.

In the province of San Juan, Governor José Luis Gioja was reelected for the second time after beating his opponent Roberto Basualdo (a dissident Peronist). With a 76.7 percent of the votes tallied, he obtained a 69.11 percent of the votes.

Earlied this year, Gioja had pushed for a controversial amendment of the provincial constitution, which would allow him to run for a third term in office.

The President also achieved an astonishing victory in Formosa, where she obtained over 75 percent of the votes. Governor Governor Gildo Isfrán managed to be reelected once again, in a province in which he’s been in power since 1995.

With a 20 percent of the votes tallied, Isfrán achieved a 74 percent of the votes.

In the province of Santa Cruz, Kirchnerite Governor Daniel Peralta was reelected with a resounding 81.58 percent of the votes, with only 25 percent of the votes tallied, and will stay in office until 2015.

According to government sources, the Victory Front candidate had obtained between 10 and 15 percent more than his opponent.

In La Pampa, Governor Oscar Mario Jorge was reelected after obtaining a 41.30 percent of the votes, in a province in which President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was gathering over 55 percent of the citizens’ votes.

The Victory Front also claimed victory in the Jujuy province, reelecting Governor Eduardo Fellner for the second time, after he obtained a 56.25 percent of the votes with a 33 percent of the ballots tallied.

UDESO candidate Mario Fiad came in second place after obtaining a 27.57 percent of the votes.

Meanwhile, in the San Luis province, where presidential candidate Rodríguez Sáa is from, his protégée Claudio Poggi was also reelected with a 57.41 percent of the votes, after 95 percent of the ballots had been tallied..

His main opponent, Victory Front’s Alfonso Vergés, had earlier advocated for the continuation of their political project.

With over a 55 percent of the votes tallied in the province of Entre Ríos, Governor Sergio Urribarri also achieved reelection after obtaining a 56.94 of the votes. His opponent, Atilio Benedetti, was reaching a 19.34 percent of the votes.

Earlier, as he was seen casting his vote, he had dedicated it “to the memory of Néstor Kirchner.”
