After Sobrero fiasco, judge removes Federal Police, enlists SI in arson investigation

One of the Sarmiento train lines set on fire last May.

San Martín Federal Judge Manuel Yalj decided to remove the Federal Police from the investigation of the burning of several trains in the Sarmiento line after mentioning several “errors” in the investigation.

After gaining nationwide notoriety last Friday when authorities decided to arrest railway union leader Rubén “Pollo” Sobrero on arson charges, Yalj decided to remove the Federal Police from the investigation.

Judicial sources informed that he made the decision after publicly acknowledging that “errors were made” during the investigation, for which Sobrero was eventually released.

The Judge decided to bring in the Intelligence Secretary (SI, former SIDE) in order to replace the Federal Police.

He still has to decided whether or not to prosecute Sobrero and five other suspects.
