'The world today looks upon us with curiosity and respect,' says CFK

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in Merlo.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner once again defended the economic model implemented since 2003 and proposed once more that all social and political sectors defend the “rights and conquests” met throughout her governance and that of her husband, the late Néstor Kirchner.

Fernández de Kirchner was inaugurating the National University building in the Buenos Aires province area of Merlo, alongside local and provincial authorities.

“Our achievements, the rights we created, cannot be stuck inside the head of just one person, as we lose people from one day to the next. They have to be policies that belong to society, to institutions,” stated the President during her speech.

During the ceremony, the head of State also paid homage to the thirty-fifth anniversary of the ‘Night of the Pencils,’ (La Noche de los Lápices) stating, “it’s a special day, because we are also holding the event in commemoration, and wish to pay homage to those young children today.”

The ceremony was taking place from 11 am this morning, along Belgrano 369, in the neighbourhood of San Antonio de Padua.

Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli, Education Minister Alberto Sileoni and Marcelo Ducrós, the university vice-chancellor, were all present at the event.
