CFK: 'Our agricultural plan is key to Argentina's development'

Speaking from the Tecnópolis science and technology theme park, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced the Strategic Agrifood and Agrindustrial Plan (PEA) and assured that the country will produce “over 160 million tons” of grains as she presented the goals of the farming programme for 2020. “This plan is the key for Argentina’s development,” she said, although she warned that even though the goals set are “good” in the long run they need to be expanded.

The President assured that by 2020, Argentina is expected to produce over 120 million tons of grains thanks to a technological and scientific development that will take the country “to a position of leadership.” 

“Argentina has the chance to become a global leader in the farming sector. It is the largest exporter of biodiesel, soybean flour, it is the second exporter in sunflower and peanut-related products and third in soybean and garlic,” she assured.

During her speech, she also recalled that is was “cultural subordination” that subjugated the country’s sovereign plan, and said she was in favour of increasing exports in all areas. 

“We need to increase our pork exports because it is the most-consumed product on a global scale,” she said.

Over 1500 people attended the event, including government officials, governors, members of the cabinet and farming sector leaders.
