Chile: Students burst into Education Ministry, cause property damage
At least 50 high school students burst into Chile’s Education Ministry in Santiago and occupied the building for two hours. Police sources reported no one was detained but that protesters caused property damage.
The group stayed at the office of Education Ministry Felipe Bulnes and later abandoned the headquarters by pacific means after negotiating with the police.
The students protested against the meeting that will be held on Saturday between the leaders of the students organizations and President Sebastián Piñera at la Moneda Palace.
They also claimed for the resignation of the general director of the Police, Eduardo Gordon, and of the Interior Minister, Rodrigo Hinzpeter, who they qualified as “murderer” due to the death of the minor who died at hands of the police last week.
The ministry assured that the protesters broke down the all the access doors, broke glasses and destroyed the door of the ministry’s cabinet.
