Southern airports cancel flights due to volcanic ash
A janitor mops the floors in a deserted Aeroparque Metropolitan airport.
Due to a new ash cloud, the Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 airports announced that at least eight flights from the Southern area of the country were cancelled.
The ashes led to the suspension of the services that were heading to Trelew, Bahía Blanca and Mar del Plata.
Sources inside the National Administration of Civil Aviation (ANAC) confirmed that the ash cloud was not present in the Metropolitan area, so Ezeiza international airport and Aeroparque Metropolitan airport “are working normally.”
The information came after President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that due to the ash cloud she had decided to call off her trip to the San Juan province.
