Libya rebels enter Gaddafi house
Libyan rebels have entered Muammar Gaddafi's house after breaking into his vast Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli today, al-Jazeera television reported, citing sources.
Reporters at the scene said rebels were firing shots into the air from within the compound in celebration.
Libyan rebels appeared to be in control of most of Tripoli, the Pentagon said, adding that it was sticking to its assessment that leader Muammar Gaddafi had not left the country. Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan added that although the command capabilities of Gaddafi's forces had been diminished, they remained dangerous.
He also said the United States was monitoring Libya's chemical weapons sites, amid concern in Congress that those weapons could fall into the wrong hands.
