'We need to come together, to create a united society' CFK

Those were the words of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in her first speech after discovering that she was the most-voted candidate in the primaries. She acknowledged the candidates from across the whole country and said, “Don't expect me to blast anyone tonight, that's not what I'm here for.”

Congratulating all those who voted, and participated in the elections, the head of State celebrated her victory as the results of the primary votes came through, giving thanks to all Argentines, stating that even though the world is a difficult place, “we all must come together, to create a united society.”

The President stood with 49.2% of the vote, in comparison to 13.28% achieved by Radical candidate, Ricardo Alfonsín, and 12.13% of Peronist candidate Eduardo Duhalde.

As Kirchnerite supporters celebrated at the Victory Front political party headquarters following the results, Fernández de Kirchner also asserted that “for the first time, all political parties were given equal advertising space in the media.”

The head of State also underlined the strong presence of political reform, following this "historic moment" for the country, referring to the carrying out of the first primary elections.
