'We are just at the starting line of a long race,' Alfonsín
UCR presidential pre-candidate Ricardo Alfonsín showed up early this morning to vote at a school in his hometown, Chascomús, and while waiting for the opening of the poll station told reporters that today’s primaries “make the starting grid, but the race will start later,” in reference to October’s presidential elections.
Careful not to make statements that could break the electoral ban, Alfonsín said that these primaries are “a general rehearsal for the presidential elections to be held on October 23rd as well for their round-off stage.” Thus, Alfonsín staged once again his confident on reaching a second round with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
Alfonsin, who arrived at 8:25 at the Municipal School of Chascomús No. 1, stated that he was feeling “a good hunch” for today’s results, and remarked that “the more people that votes today, the better for the construction of democracy.”
Asked about considerations on the campaign, the Unión Por Todos’ candidate said it was “a short campaign” because of some official regulations and stressed that he would have preferred “a longer campaign in order to visit all the provinces. For October’s presidentials, I’m planning to go two or three times across the country.”
