Golf ball-sized hail, dark skies take Porteños by surprise

Bad weather surprised porteños today as hail was reported in several locations of the Buenos Aires province.

Golf ball-sized hail, dark skies took Porteños by surprise on Friday morning as the weather conditions worsened in the Capital and several locations of the Buenos Aires province.

Heavy rain, wind and hail hit the Capital, suburban areas and some parts of the province as the skies darkened turning day into to night in various neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

Earlier, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued an alert for heavy rain, storms and occasional hail, but porteños seemed to have been taken by surprise by the events, while damages caused by the hail storm are yet to be assessed.

Temperatures remained moderate with thermometers marking over 15 degrees Celsius this morning and expected to reach 20 Celsius by mid afternoon. The conditions are supposed to improve during the day, but temperatures are predicted to drop for the weekend as Argentineans reach voting booths for the countries’ primaries.
