US to press on in Afghanistan

US soldier mans a machine gun on a military helicopter as it heads to Kandahar military base. Thirty-one US special forces and seven Afghans died when the Taliban shot down their helicopter.

The loss of 30 US troops in Saturday's helicopter crash in Afghanistan will not deter the United States from its mission in the country, President Barack Obama said on today during a television announcement aired today from The White House .

"I know that our troops will continue the hard work of transitioning to a stronger Afghan government and ensuring that Afghanistan is not a safe haven for terrorists," he said in remarks delivered after the head of state addressed economic concerns. "We will press on and we will succeed."

He also said it was “a reminder of the risks women and man face.”

“These man and woman put their lives in their lines for the thing that bind us together. They serve this nation as a team,” Obama stressed
