'Argentina is prepared to face impact of US economy crisis,' Boudou

Economy Minister Amado Boudou, recognized that the Government is “observing the financial crisis” currently affecting the United States, “with concern,” however also reaffirming that Argentina is “prepared” to face an impact of the crisis to the domestic market.

According to the Economy Minister, the Argentine economy currently “has the possibility of maintaining a steady level of growth,” away from external crisis.

Boudou further stated that the North American economy “is still the biggest in the world, and despite advances from China, it remains one of the drivers of the global economic system.”

“Being prepared means developing the internal market,” assured the economy minister during a radio interview.

With regard to the dollar exchange rate, the head of the Economy Ministry insisted that in the local market, the dollar will maintain stability after the presidential elections on October 23 of this year.

“I see that businessmen and the population overall are calm, and this is due to being able to see that we continue to apply the same policies that we have used over the past eight years.”

Boudou also commented today on the possibility of Argentina issuing debt, and it said that it would happen “at some stage,” but only to finance infrastructure projects. At the same time he underlined that if issued, the debt would “not be used to cover other debt or current costs.”
