AFA backtracks on new football tournament bid
AFA president Julio Grondona.
So nothing’s going to change. The idea of fusing both the First Division and the National B into one new tournament has been shot down on Monday after the AFA (Argentine Football Association) released a statement announcing that it had decided to suspend the project.
“We tried to put a stop to many unpopular decisions,” AFA president Julio Grondona told the press.
“There was a lot of confusion created intentionally, many grudges came back to the surface, creating an unbearable situation that harms the Argentine football, maliciously diverting the first and only attempt to discuss the proposal,” the official statement concluded.
