Judge Servini de Cubría 'willing to step down' over election funds spat
Federal Judge María Servini de Cubría threatened to resign from office today, as she continues to struggle with the National Government over the alleged lack of necessary funds to conduct the primary and national elections.
“When the time comes, I will not be held responsible for making the country and its citizens look bad because I don’t have the necessary funds. Let them try and impeach me, I am willing to step down,” she warned.
The magistrate sent a letter to the president of the National Electoral Chamber, Rodolfo Munné, warning about the alleged “risk” of not having enough funds to hold the elections.
Previously, Servini de Cubría had denounced the alleged lack of economic resources in the City in order to conduct the August 14th primaries and the general elections on October 23rd.
The National Government rejected her statements and guaranteed that the elections would take place as scheduled.
“I don’t understand what the fuzz is all about," Electoral National Director Alejandro Tullio said. “She will be given whatever’s necessary. This happens all the time. Judges talk about their needs and the Government listens to their needs and solves them.”
However, Servini de Cubría repeated that “if the necessary conditions are not given, I won’t be a part of it. I will not be made a fool of,” she said.
“I need at least a million pesos and we’ve received $105,000,” she concluded.
