'Argentina didn't have an Embassy in the house of its main partner'
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner inaugurated the new Argentine Embassy in the Brazilian Capital along with her Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff. Earlier, they stressed the need of expanding the commercial integration between the two nations.
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was also present at the ceremony of inauguration that was transmitted on the radio and television.
During the ceremony, they remembered late ex President Néstor Kirchner and highlighted along with Lula da Silva that “they knew how to lift the cultural and political barriers” that were separating both countries.
Rousseff also assured that they have “left behind” the rivalries caused by the “dominant countries that were concentrated in separating us.”
Earlier, in a press meeting at the Brazilian House of Government the chiefs of state reiterated their will to strengthen the commercial bond amongst the two Latin American countries. “It is important to integrate our productive processes. We can not back from an interaction like the one we have,” Rousseff sustained.
The Brazilian chief of state also tried to calm eventual commercial quarrels by saying they are “not as relevant” to the integration process. The Argentine Head of State, on the other hand, defended further dialogue between the private sectors. “Let’s work on the articulation of Brazilian and Argentinean private sectors so we won’t have any conflict of interests,” CFK remarked.
Rousseff explained Argentina and Brazil have joint ventures on Defense, space research, amongst other areas.
During the meeting, Fernández de Kirchner reminded good relations between Brazil and Argentina were fomented by late president Nestor Kirchner. “Our brotherly relation has much to do with the efforts of our beloved Nestor Kirchner,” she stressed.
She also lobbied for a “regional response” to the global financial crisis.
