Messi annoyed due to suspension of friendly match
Forward Lionel Messi harshly criticized the decision of the Argentina Football Association (AFA) to cancel de friendly match against Romania that was going to be held in August after Sergio Batista was removed from his post, and added that it may damage the national football team’s status.
The AFA reported that Batista was not the team’s coach anymore after Argentina was left out of the Copa América 2011 in the quarter-finals. The decision led to the cancellation of the friendly match against Romania that was going to be held on August 10 in Bucharest, although it had already signed a commitment contract.
“I don’t know the reasons why we are not going to play. The only thing I know is that if we have a commitment we have to fulfil it. If Argentina arranged its matches then we have to play them and do not leave the national team in a bad position,” Messi told reporters in Chile.
“Let bygones be bygones and let’s keep on moving forward. We are obviously hurt, this Copa América was not in our plans, we were confident and we were willing to win for what it meant for Argentina,” Barça’s player continued.
Uruguay defeated Paraguay in Copa América’s final and achieved its 15 cup and was left as the team that has won more continental tournament.
On Wednesday, the head of the AFA, Julio Grondona, announced that everything is almost ready for Alejandro Sabella to be the new coach of Argentina.
Batista officially took office in November 2010 after being the interim coach for a few months after Diego Maradona resigned.
