Uruguay´s Mujica appoints historic Tupamaro guerrilla man as Defense Minister
Mujica and Huidobro at the country’s parliament back in 2005, they were both jailed during the Uruguayan dictatorship.
Uruguayan president José Mujica appointed today a historic Tupamaro movement leader as the country’s new Defense Minister. During a press conference, Mujica informed the current minister Luis Rosadilla is to step down due health issues.
Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro is to be sworn next week. Huidobro, 69 years old, is a historic leader for the leftist guerrilla resistance and one of the founders of Tupamaro national liberation movement. The guerrilla man was incarcerated for 13 years during the Uruguayan dictatorship and is the author of several books about the subject.
Star of many national and international documentaries, Huidobro is seen as one of Uruguay’s biggest military history connoisseurs.
