Electoral ban in effect

In total, 137 posts are to be defined by popular vote including the capital’s mayor and vice mayor, 30 lawmakers and 105 mayors.

Since Friday 8am up to Sunday – after the city’s elections are held – Buenos Aires is on an electoral ban. Until Sunday no electoral polls are to be published, rallies are forbidden and election material distribution banned.

Next Sunday 2.471.087 porteños will vote to elect a new mayor and Deputy-mayor for the city with over 15 candidates running in hopes of becoming the new city mayor. In total, 137 posts are to be defined by popular vote including the capital’s mayor and vice mayor, 30 lawmakers and 105 mayors (7 members for each of the 15 municipalities).

Elections are to be held from 8 am to 18 pm on Sunday. During this period, all political gatherings, shows, public assembly, sport events and theatrical spectacles are prohibited. The ban will be lifted three hours after the ballot is closed. Alcoholic beverages retailing will be also barred during the election hours.

Yesterday, leading candidates for the Buenos Aires City Mayor’s Office, Frente para la Victoria (FpV)´s , Daniel Filmus; Mauricio Macri from PRO and Proyecto Sur´s Fernando "Pino" Solanas, wrapped up their campaigns during political rallies throughout the city.
