Atlantis launches on final US space shuttle mission
Space shuttle Atlantis pilot Douglas Hurley, mission specialist Sandra Magnus, commander Christopher Ferguson and mission specialist Rex Walheim walk out of the NASA Operations and Checkout building hours before their scheduled launch at Kennedy Space.
Space shuttle Atlantis rocketed away from its seaside launch pad in Florida on the 135th and final flight in the 30-year-old US shuttle program.
Carrying a crew of four and supplies critical for the International Space Station, Atlantis lifted off on its 12-day mission at about 11:29 EDT (1529 GMT) after a quick fix to a last-minute technical problem.
